About Us

our history

Established in 2019, St Theresa Endowment Initiative (STEIN) has been on an exciting and eventful journey in the pursuit of good health, economic empowerment and advocacy for sustainable use of the environment.

Our greatest success has been in the priority area of health. The Initiative renovated and reopened St. Theresa Healthcare Services, a medical facility that provides a wide range of health care services at an affordable cost.

The Centre started as an MCH home and outreach programme by the then Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs L. J Walusimbi, in the 1990s. She provided ANC care, deliveries, immunisation under UNEPI and health education.

With the support of local leaders and partners like Mr Matiriini Mukasa and Ms Tereza Namatovu, a 7-room facility was built where maternal and child care were provided.

In 2019, the promoters of STEIN embarked on a major renovation and extension that resulted in the total refurbishment of the facility to include a laboratory, pharmacy and modern hospital beds and other diagnostic equipment, including a scan. The improved look of the facility and the widening of the range of services increased the number of patients seeking care at the facility.
